Senior Instructor/Professor - Biomedical Engineering Technology
Summary
Develop and teach classes in basic electronics and medical technology to students from a diverse group of developing countries. The emphasis will be on biomedical repair in a broad range of EKG, patient monitoring, infusion, ventilator, clinical laboratory, imaging equipment, and sensor devices. Will share the responsibility for developing and teaching biomedical engineering aspects of the equipment. Prepare curricula, present lectures, seminars and workshops.
Responsibilities
- Teach Biomedical Engineering Technology in the area of basic electronics, biomedical instrumentation, sensors and transducers, troubleshoot and repair of general biomedical equipment, clinical laboratory and/or some imaging equipment;
- Develop appropriate course syllabi, lesson plans and course material reflecting national and international standards and regulations for biomedical equipment utilization and repair. Apply teaching techniques to best achieve course and program objectives;
- Prepare and present lectures, laboratory demonstrations and tutorials relating to laboratory course material. Organize seminars and workshops, and test and maintain biomedical equipment;
- Work with colleagues to develop, implement, evaluate and periodically review and revise the organizational framework, learning outcomes and curriculum of the Program;
- Prepare daily instructional plans and instructional materials at the modular level as directed by the Program Director;
- Participate in curriculum development and serve on School committees as necessary to maintain and improve the instructional program; participate in appropriate professional development activities;
- Monitor student classroom/laboratory efforts and homework, providing the most efficient use of academic learning time;
- Counsel and advice students on course content and academic issues;
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electronics or Biomedical Equipment Technology or Biomedical Engineering or equivalent (Master’s or Ph.D. degree preferred). Must possess a strong background in electrical/electronic theory, biomedical instrumentation, and troubleshooting broad range of medical instruments;
- Minimum of three years experience teaching biomedical technologies;
- Minimum of five to nine years experience as a Biomedical Technician/Engineer or ICC certified Technician preferred;
- Minimum of two years experience in a managerial/ administrative position
- Demonstrated excellence in, and commitment to, teaching and scholarship;
- Proficiency in publishing articles or books in related domains;
- Ability to relate to students of various skills, academic levels and diverse ethnic and gender backgrounds;
- Demonstrate a willingness to work cooperatively with others;
- Strong written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent presentation and public speaking skills;
- Strong technical aptitude and extensive knowledge of a broad range of biomedical equipment, operation and maintenance;
- Excellent computer skills.
