Biomedical Repair Technician
Summary
Maintenance and repair of complex medical equipment such as IV Pumps, patient monitoring systems, ventilators, defibrillators, ECGs, autoclaves, centrifuges etc. Responsible for the complete processing cycle of refurbishing biomedical equipment. Maintain the biomedical repair laboratory. Position reports to the Director of the Biomedical Repair Laboratory.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, service, install, calibrate and repair biomedical equipment using established guidelines from manufacturers and/or other applicable policies and procedures.
- Enter equipment data and repair records into computerized inventory system, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the biomedical equipment database, and maintain repair records
- Maintain the lab area and secure all equipment, including test equipment.
- Perform needs assessment and instruct recipient hospital staff in the operation and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain productivity levels consistent with established guidelines.
- Ensure all service and documentation is complete, timely, and accurate.
- Direct activities of contractors and vendors to ensure appropriate delivery of services.
- Assist Biomedical Training Center as needed.
- Instruct occasionally international trainees on biomedical equipment repair.
- Supervise student interns and work study students.
- Maintain biomedical expertise through ongoing training and education.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Associates degree in a technical/electronics field or equivalent military training and experience. Biomedical Equipment Technology degree or BMET Certification preferred. Military training and experience a plus.
- 2 - 5 years progressive experience as a Biomedical Equipment Technician.
- Strong technical aptitude and extensive knowledge of a broad range of biomedical equipment operation and maintenance. Ability to work in advanced technical situations.
- Knowledge of electronics, including solid state technology, and both linear and digital integrated circuit operation.
- Working knowledge of the latest and most advanced troubleshooting, calibration, and repair techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, diagrams, specifications, and illustrative drawings.
- Mentor and train entry level staff.
- Superior interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Must be able to regularly lift/move 15 to 30 pounds and occasionally lift/move 50-100 pounds. Continuous standing, lifting, bending, crouching and twisting required.
- Ability to work independently and as a team.
- Verifiable professional references.
